This excellent photograph would seem to date from 1941-42. Jack Henderson is a Corporal by this time and it’s just possible to see the edges of the distinctive 46th Division ‘Oak Leaf’ and Durham Light Infantry flashes on the all three men’s battle dress shoulders. A ‘Pte Guthrie’ of the Mortar Platoon’ is mentioned in the 1946 Battalion History as receiving a ‘Certificate of Merit for saving the life of an RAF airman from a crashing bomber in 1941. The different spelling of the surname aside, this has to be the Pte T Guthery featured on the right here. Suggestions for the left surname signature requested. Could it be Burke?
